Can You Rent a Perfume Vending Machine? Rental vs Buying

SpritzUp perfume vending machines are sold outright from €1,950, with no lease, no franchise and no monthly fee. How to compare any rental quote with that.

You cannot rent or lease a SpritzUp perfume vending machine. We sell it outright, for €1,950, €2,590 or €2,750, with no lease, no franchise and no monthly fee, and it is yours from the day it is delivered.

To compare a rental quote with that, divide our price by the monthly payment. At an example rent of €150 a month, renting has cost as much as our €1,950 Essential machine after 13 months. The full specification is on the perfume vending machine page.

Most sellers in this category will not give you a price without a sales call, which makes a rental or franchise offer hard to judge on its own. This post works through that sum for any monthly quote, does the same for franchise and revenue-share offers, and lists the questions to ask before you sign one.

Rent, Lease, Franchise or Buy: How Each One Works

Renting, leasing or hiring. You pay every month for a machine that belongs to someone else for as long as the agreement runs. Some leases end with the machine becoming yours and some do not, so that is the first thing to check.

A franchise. You pay for the right to run someone else’s brand and system. What that costs is set by whoever sells the franchise, and it can include an entry fee as well as a share of what the machine takes.

A placement deal. An operator owns the machine, places it in someone else’s venue, and agrees with that venue what share of the takings, if any, it receives. Most of our customers work this way from the operator’s side: they buy a machine outright and place it in a bar, hotel, gym or nightclub they do not own. If you own a venue yourself, the comparison to make is whatever share an operator offers you against 100% of the revenue if you buy the machine.

Buying outright. You pay once and the machine is yours. That is the only way we sell, and these are the terms that come with it:

What to checkBuying a SpritzUp machine
Who owns the machineYou, from the day it is delivered
What you pay us each monthNothing, because there is no monthly fee
Share of the takings paid to usNone, because you keep 100% of the revenue
Who sets the price per sprayYou, from the management platform
Who chooses the fragrancesYou, bought wherever you like
BrandingNo branding requirement is imposed, and you may apply your own
Who controls the screenYou, with remote advertising on all three packages

Our guide on how much to charge per spray goes through setting your price.

Is It Cheaper to Rent or Buy a Perfume Vending Machine?

It depends on how long you keep the machine, and that is easy to work out. Divide the purchase price by the monthly payment, and the answer is the number of months before renting has cost as much as buying would have.

Here it is with four example monthly amounts, set against Essential at €1,950, Professional at €2,590 and Complete at €2,750:

Monthly rentEssentialProfessionalComplete
€10019.5 months25.9 months27.5 months
€15013.0 months17.3 months18.3 months
€2009.8 months13.0 months13.8 months
€2507.8 months10.4 months11.0 months

The monthly amounts are examples to show how the arithmetic works, not anyone’s actual rates, so put your own quote into the same sum. Before you divide, add to our price any taxes your country charges when the machine arrives, because those are yours to pay.

Then compare where a buyer and a renter each stand once that month arrives. The buyer owns the machine and has stopped paying for it. The renter keeps paying for as long as the agreement runs, and does not own the machine at the end unless the lease transfers it.

To keep the comparison fair, ask what the monthly amount includes. Owning has running costs of its own, such as fragrance and card fees on card sales, and our post on how much a perfume vending machine costs lists them. Our machines never come with fragrance: each one arrives without perfume, and you choose and buy it yourself.

How Much Does a Revenue Share or Franchise Royalty Cost?

A royalty, a commission or a revenue share, when it is set as a percentage, means someone else takes part of every spray sold for as long as the agreement runs. The useful question is how much the machine has to take in total before that share has cost you as much as buying outright:

ShareEssentialProfessionalComplete
10%€19,500€25,900€27,500
20%€9,750€12,950€13,750
30%€6,500€8,633€9,167

The percentages are examples, and the figures are what the machine takes in total, gross, before card fees. They are not a forecast of what any machine sells. A purchase price is paid once, but a share is charged on every sale, so the more the machine sells, the more the share takes from you.

We charge none. There is no franchise fee, no commission and no revenue share, and our terms of sale state that the buyer runs the machine independently and receives 100% of the revenue.

Apart from card fees on card sales, the one share you might still choose to pay is to a venue. If you put your machine in somebody else’s bar, gym or hotel, what you offer them is a deal between you and them, and our post on running a machine without a venue works through what different shares would cost you.

What Owning the Machine Involves

Where it goes. It can go in your own venue or in someone else’s. Most of our customers do not own a venue, and they place the machine in a local bar, hotel, gym or nightclub instead. Our guide on where to put it covers how to choose the spot.

Upkeep. The machine holds five 100 ml bottles, each one needs changing roughly every 900 sprays, which is about every two to three months, and there are no complex moving parts.

The numbers. Every transaction appears in your dashboard in real time.

Questions to Ask Before You Sign a Rental or Franchise

If you are weighing an offer, these are the questions that turn it into numbers you can compare:

  1. Who owns the machine at the end, and what does it cost to keep it?
  2. What is the minimum term, and what does it cost to leave early?
  3. Is there a share of the takings, and is it charged on top of the monthly amount?
  4. What does the monthly amount include, such as fragrance or maintenance?
  5. Who sets the price per spray, and can you change it when you want to?
  6. Do you have to buy your fragrance from them?
  7. Whose branding goes on the machine, and who keeps what the screen earns?
  8. If you change venue, can the machine come with you?

Put the monthly amount into the rent table and any share from question 3 into the share table, then add whatever questions 1 and 2 say it costs to keep the machine or leave early, and you will know what the offer costs next to buying.

When Does Buying Make More Sense Than Renting?

This part is reasoning, not a measured result.

Buying makes more sense if you mean to run the machine for longer than the number of months in the rent table, if you want to set your own price and choose your own fragrances, or if you would rather not share what the machine takes.

How to Buy One Instead

Reserving costs nothing and needs no card. Once we accept your reservation we send you the payment instructions, the order is confirmed when the full amount is paid, and the machine ships after that and is yours on delivery. The pricing section shows which packages are available in your country.

If you want to talk it through with us first, you can book a call with us. We sell only to businesses and self-employed professionals with a valid tax number. Every purchase comes with an onboarding session and a guide to the management platform, and what each package includes is set out in our post on how much a perfume vending machine costs.

The Short Version

You cannot rent a SpritzUp machine, but you can work out exactly what renting would cost you instead. To compare a rental quote, divide our price by the monthly amount. To compare a franchise or revenue share, work out how much the machine must take before the share has cost as much as buying.

Then run your own numbers in the calculator, and when you are ready, reserve yours.
